In the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system we take one day off from our morning practice every week - it's up to you to pick that day, but it's recommended that we be consistent with it. Jennifer and Ken take Sundays off. Also Ashtangis take "moon days" off. So every two weeks or so there is a full moon or a new moon and we don't practice on those days. So that gives us 6 day practice weeks alternating with 5 day practice weeks. It feels great to practice, but it's lovely to have those days off. Take rest! Have an extra coffee! The next moon day is Thursday this week, August 15. Enjoy your practice and enjoy your rest days too!

"We need to find the link between our traditions and our present experience of life. Nowness, or the magic of the present moment, is what joins the wisdom of the past with the present." Chogyam TrungpaTwo great classes this morning. An advanced Yogi, owner of another excellent Edmonton program, dropped in to do her practice with Jennifer's guidance. She stayed a few minutes after to learn some Qi gong from Ken, our main Karate teacher - she plans to be back for more! Our Adult and Family Karate class was very focused and strong this morning - everyone is moving forward in their work significantly. See you in class!
Here's a nice summation of the point of traditional, spiritual Martial Arts practice, from a Meditation teacher!"Question: What about when someone else is doing wrong to us? Answer: You must not allow people to do wrong to you. Whenever someone does something wrong, he harms others and at the same time he harms himself. If you allow him to do wrong, you are encouraging him to do wrong. You must use all your strength to stop him, but only with good will, compassion, and sympathy for that person. If you act with anger or hatred then you aggravate the situation. But you cannot have good will for such a person unless your mind is calm and peaceful. So practice to develop peace within yourself, and then you can solve the problem." S. N. Goenka
